Weight Training Schedule

Having a scheduled time to complete your workouts is a must. It’s amazing how making daily or weekly appointments to hit the gym make it so much easier to actually do it. It’s just too easy to blow off a workout when something unexpected occurs during your day. But if you’ve scheduled an appointment with yourself to complete your weight training, you’re far less likely to ditch that workout for some online shopping.

And that’s how you have to regard it too. It’s an appointment. And it’s not just as important as any of your other appointments; it’s the most important appointment! If you miss that one, it’ll adversely affect all the others. You’ll have less energy throughout the day, you might just nod off in that afternoon meeting, and you’ll be missing those all-important mood elevators that come from exercising.

Here are a few tips to help you meet those crucial workout appointments with yourself:

1. Schedule your training on your Outlook calendar at work. This’ll help prevent you from scheduling something else during your workout time. Plus, you’ll get the wonderful little pop-up reminders that’ll make it difficult to forget your workout.

2. Make your workout sessions the same time each day. After just two weeks of adhering to your self-made schedule, you’ll miss it terribly if you skip a day.

3. Be sure to cross off each workout on your calendar after you’ve completed it. Or place a giant red star over the appointment to signify that you actualized the workout. Looking back over two or three weeks of completed and consistent weight lifting sessions will give you a feeling of true accomplishment.

Adhering to your weight training schedule will turn a schedule into a habit. And as Jim Ryun, American track world record holder, once said, “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”
