Weight Training Clothing
So you just can’t bring yourself to snap on the spandex to do your weight training, huh? I know it can be somewhat uncomfortable to see a guy with thighs as big as a barrel in tiny, super-tight, stretch shorts. But trust me, he’s not doing it for the fashion. If you think about it, you don’t see people who are obviously serious weight trainers walking around the mall with weight training clothing. There’s a reason why they wear it in the gym.
Believe it or not, the type of clothing you wear to weight train can be dangerous. I used to wear my running gear to my weight work outs not realizing that I was actually creating quite a hazard for myself. Loose fitting weight training clothing, like running shorts, can easily get hung up on many of the hard angles protruding out of every weight machine in a gym. And when you move in a direction only to have your clothes snag on something unexpectedly, you can easily cause yourself a muscle strain or pull.
But when it comes to weight training attire, there’s more to it than just the practical aspect. There’s etiquette as well. For example, your neighborhood gym is not the place to show off your thong. Please make sure that your underwear isn’t visible. And sports bras are fine, of course, as long as they are truly sports bras meant to be worn outside regular clothing.
You might also want to think twice about wearing any tees with inappropriate words or phrases. Freedom of speech is one thing, but please no bad language, curse words or suggestive statements. And a picture can say a thousand words, so that goes for tees with pictures too!
Lastly, it’s so important to wear the proper foot gear when lifting weights. Flip-flops are a definite no-go! Make sure you’re wearing shoes that you can actually work-out in. No cowboy boots, high-heels, or sandals.
