Ab Fitness Equipment
Exercising the abdominals aids in overall fitness like no other muscle group (not to mention the bragging rights a rock-hard six pack can provide.) And while equipment isn’t necessary for a great ab workout, the right tools can up the ante for the battle of the bulge.
The basics of ab fitness equipment are the same as almost any type of exercise – a practice mat, a chin up bar and an exercise ball. These three items alone will let you accomplish a variety of leg exercises and crunches that are great for your abs. The addition of a workout video can help you get the most from these very simple objects.
The next rung of non-mechnical equipment requires some caution for beginners. Kettle bells and medicine balls are both weighted objects used as a standard part of weight training. They use momentum and gravity to put stress on muscle groups, and thusly must be handled with a great deal of control. Without the benefit of a personal trainer, both of these “second tier” items should be used with care to avoid injury.
Of course, several fitness machines are also available to assist in abdominal work. Rowing machines offer full-body exercise but focus on working the core, and are great for home use. The vertical knee raise machine is a very large and unwieldy piece of equipment, but offers specific ab exercises considered to be some of the best available.
There are also many books devoted exclusively to the abdominals that will help to find exercises that work for you.
